The National Pension Program (NPP)

Those who are less than 60 years old or more than 20 years old and live in Japan should join the national pension system.

The types of national pension programs

1st insured

Self-employed, free-lance professions and students
(People who don't join employees' pension plan or a mutual aid association)

2nd insured

Office workers and public workers
(People who join employees' pension plan or a mutual aid association)

3rd insured

The spouses who are maintained by 2nd insured people

The different types of pension plans

Basic pension for the elderly

When the people pay the premium for more than 25 years and become 65 years old.

Basic disordered pension

When the people who pay fixed insurance premiums but get disordered because of sickness or injury before becoming 20 years of age.

Basic pension for a bereaved family

The family of a person who paid fixed insurance premiums for the qualified period can pension benefits.

Lump-sum death benefit

When the person who paid insurance premiums for more than three years has dead before receiving a pension.

Widow's pension

When a husband with a qualification period who should have received a pension has died without receiving it, then the wife may become the receipent.
